A Holistic Approach to Digital Inclusion
Through Curry Senior Vitality, an ongoing program of Curry Senior Center, participants receive iPads, Fitbits, and smart scales to support both their health and technology learning. Over a year, they attend regular classes led by digitalLIFT trainers to build essential iPad skills—everything from connecting to Wi-Fi and using video calls to exploring apps that support daily life and well-being.
Classes are offered in English, Spanish, Cantonese, and Russian. For Spanish-speaking groups, Curry partners with Mission Neighborhood Center to host in-person classes at their San Francisco location.
Individual Support and Health Coaching
Each learner also meets monthly with a dedicated tutor for one-on-one support. They can bring specific questions, or tutors—often digitalLIFT volunteers—review key skills or share new tips and tricks. In addition to digital tutoring, learners work with a health coach once a month to set and track personal wellness goals.
Curry’s program ensures that all participants have reliable home internet access, often assisting with setup and covering the cost of the first year of service.
Building Confidence and Community
After completing their first year, learners transition into the maintenance program, where they build advanced iPad skills. Many alumni stay connected beyond the two-year mark, joining weekly social hangouts on Zoom and participating in trivia, games, and discussions. They’re also encouraged to join the many events and activities offered by Curry Senior Center.
A Partnership Rooted in Connection
digitalLIFT’s Senior Curriculum Manager, who manages this partnership and teaches the monthly English and Russian Zoom classes, says:
“I love this program because it gives learners long-term, wraparound support—technology, health, and community all in one. Over time, we see people grow more confident and independent, while building real friendships.”
With its blend of digital skills, health coaching, and ongoing community engagement, the Curry Senior Vitality program exemplifies what’s possible when organizations work together to make inclusion a lasting experience—not just during a class.
