At digitalLIFT, our board members bring deep expertise, lived experience, and a shared commitment to advancing digital equity for all. This month, we are proud to spotlight Andrew Broderick, a member of our Development Committee whose career has been shaped by decades of leadership at the intersection of technology, health, aging, and community impact.
A Shared Mission
Andrew’s connection to digitalLIFT began with a personal invitation and a shared purpose.
“Invitation from Kami. I share the same mission as digitalLIFT through my work with SF Tech Council, and see our organizations as collaborators working towards shared goals.”
That alignment continues to guide his work today.
Through his leadership with the San Francisco Tech Council, Andrew collaborates with a cross-sector network dedicated to closing the digital divide for older adults and people with disabilities. The Council brings together leaders from technology, business, government, community-based organizations, philanthropy, and academia to develop practical solutions that promote and improve digital access and inclusion.
digitalLIFT has long been part of this collaborative effort. As Andrew notes, “digitalLIFT was a founding member organization of SFTC and continues to be actively involved.”
A Career Dedicated to Digital Equity
Throughout his career, Andrew has focused on helping underserved communities benefit from technology. His work with the San Francisco Tech Council has included:
- Developing the Digital Equity Plan for Older Adults and Adults with Disabilities in San Francisco (2024–2028)
- Designing and implementing a patient portal training sandbox that helps older adults to confidently acquire the skills and confidence to manage their health online
- Regranting funds to community organizations during the pandemic to pilot programs that reduce social isolation and loneliness for diverse populations
- Coordinating community technology support pop-up events that provide immediate, culturally responsive 1-on-1 assistance
Earlier in his career, Andrew held leadership roles focused on digital health and emerging technologies. At the Public Health Institute, he advanced digital health practices and policies for underserved populations, leading research that evaluated digital health solutions in underserved communities, as well as promoting the integration of community health workers into care teams in safety-net settings. He also served as Research Director at the Health Technology Center, and as a management consultant with SRI International, where he assessed emerging technologies and healthcare innovations for clients worldwide.
Why Digital Inclusion Matters
For Andrew, digital inclusion is fundamental to health and opportunity.
“It is a super social determinant of health!”
He believes digital access affects nearly every aspect of modern life, from accessing healthcare and essential services to participating in the economy and staying connected with family and community. His perspective is grounded in years of experience witnessing how technology can either create opportunity or deepen existing inequities.
Advocating for Change
Andrew believes meaningful advocacy begins with personal experience.
“Everyone has personal experiences of the challenges and barriers that digital inclusion presents… raising our voice to collectively demand supportive policy and funding to close the digital divide benefits everyone.”
His message is clear: share your story, speak up, and support the policies and investments that make digital equity possible for every community.
Life Beyond the Work
Outside of his professional and board responsibilities, Andrew enjoys staying active, spending time with family and friends, and exploring new places and cultures.
“I enjoy swimming in the San Francisco Bay, spending time with family and friends, and experiencing new adventures through travel, people, culture, and the joy of the unexpected.”
