For many adults, learning technology isn’t about mastering the newest app or gadget. It’s about gaining the confidence to solve everyday problems independently. Through patience, encouragement, and a learner-centered approach, digitalLIFT volunteer Digital Coach Sukhendu empowers learners to build practical skills that improve their daily lives.
That approach has made a meaningful difference for David, a learner who has been working one-on-one with Sukhendu since May of 2025. Rather than following a rigid curriculum, Sukhendu tailors each session to the learner’s goals, providing opportunities for learning and growth.
When they first began meeting, Sukhendu focused on practical skills that would make everyday computer use easier. Together, they explored how to share a screen in Google Meet, send articles through Microsoft Outlook, and use Grammarly to improve spelling and writing. These foundational skills opened the door to more productive online communication and gave David greater confidence using everyday technology.
As David’s needs evolved, so did Sukhendu’s coaching. Questions shifted from basic computer tasks to improving computer security, performance, and overall usability. Sukhendu guided David through improving Chrome’s security settings, recognizing phishing emails, managing spam, and understanding safe browsing practices. Rather than simply fixing problems, Sukhendu explained the reason behind each recommendation, equipping David with the knowledge to make informed decisions independently.
Sukhendu also helped improve David’s computer performance by reviewing the Windows Task Manager, identifying resource-intensive applications, uninstalling unnecessary software, cleaning up files, and discussing strategies to improve system speed. Instead of trying to cover everything in a single session, Sukhendu paced the instruction across multiple meetings, allowing time to practice each new skill before moving on to the next.
Over the course of their coaching relationship, Sukendu helped David navigate a range of common daily tech challenges from blocking unwanted pop-ups to troubleshooting home internet issues, and everything in between.
Instead of a formal computer class, David wanted to work with someone who could answer questions as they arose. This learner-centered approach lies at the heart of digitalLIFT’s Digital Coaching program, and Sukhendu used this model by listening carefully, adapting each session to the learner’s priorities, and building on previous lessons, resulting in an environment where learning felt approachable and achievable. Sukhendu’s volunteer service is especially meaningful because he meets learners where they are.
Rather than following a one-size-fits-all curriculum, volunteer Digital Coaches work alongside learners to solve real-world technology challenges they encounter in their daily lives. Over time, those individual solutions lead to something much greater: increased independence, stronger digital confidence, and greater access to the opportunities technology provides.
Sukhendu’s dedication demonstrates that meaningful digital inclusion is built one conversation, one lesson, and one question at a time. Through patience, expertise, and genuine encouragement, Sukhendu has helped David develop practical skills and lasting confidence, creating an impact that extends far beyond each coaching session.
