San Francisco, CA — The City and County of San Francisco has awarded a $68,750 grant to digitalLIFT to expand its Digital Neighbor Program, a community-driven initiative that delivers devices, internet access, and culturally responsive digital literacy training to underserved residents across the city. The grant, administered by the Mayor’s Office of Housing and Community Development (MOHCD), supports digitalLIFT’s mission to close the digital divide and empower low-income, disabled, elderly, and non-English-speaking San Franciscans.
“This partnership with CTN/ digitalLIFT’s Digital Neighbor Program represents San Francisco’s commitment to building a more connected and inclusive city,” said Rey LaChaux, Digital Equity Manager at MOHCD. “Together, we’re transforming digital access into digital empowerment; equipping residents with the tools, training, and confidence to thrive in a digital economy.”
The Digital Neighbor Program was selected through a competitive citywide grant process and will operate from July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2026. The program builds on digitalLIFT’s 17-year legacy of grassroots digital inclusion work and reflects a growing national movement to ensure that all communities have the skills and support needed to navigate today’s digital landscape.
“MOHCD’s leadership in equity is truly inspiring,” said Kami Griffiths, Founding Executive Director of digitalLIFT. “We’re proud to work together to connect residents to the digital tools and knowledge they need to succeed in today’s digital world.”
With this funding, digitalLIFT will deepen its partnerships with local libraries, senior centers, and housing providers—bringing digital literacy training and connectivity to those who need it most.
