At digitalLIFT, our people are our strength, and there’s no better example of that than Casandra “Cassi” Madrigal. As a program coordinator and all-around team builder, Cassi’s leadership is marked by compassion, staying calm under pressure, and an unshakable belief in the power of collaboration.
Extraordinary People Make the Difference
From her very first day, Cassi hit the ground running. Tasked with supporting a fast-moving team, a variety of events, and meeting critical contract goals, she navigated the pressures of a new role with determination and grace. But what stood out most to her wasn’t just the work, it was the people.
“There have been moments of stress, pressure, and uncertainty. And yet, I never felt alone,” Cassi says. “The anxiety that usually comes with being the ‘new person’ faded so quickly — not because the work is easy, but because the people are extraordinary.”
It’s this human connection, this mutual support, that continues to fuel Cassi’s approach to leadership. She shows up each day not just to meet deadlines or check off boxes, but to contribute to something meaningful alongside a team she deeply respects. In her words, this role “feels like showing up for something that matters, with people who care: not only about the work, but about each other.”
Gratitude and Grace in Challenging Times
Cassi’s gratitude runs deep. She recalls small moments and kindnesses that made a big impact in her daily life, such as thoughtful check-ins about her role and duties, welcoming smiles in meetings, and guidance when it was needed most. She is especially thankful for close team members who went out of their way to help her feel grounded during personal challenges, such as her mother’s health struggles. “That kind of care goes far beyond professional courtesy—it’s deeply human.”
Advice for Future Leaders
Her advice to new program managers? Embrace the team. Lean into collaboration. Be open to learning from others. Cassi recommends starting by building strong communication habits: check in regularly, ask questions without hesitation, and take time to really listen. She also encourages documenting processes early on, so you can keep track of what’s working and where support is needed.
Another key strategy: don’t try to do it all alone. When things feel overwhelming or chaotic, it’s a good idea to loop in the team. Often the solutions come from simply talking things through together and getting everyone’s input.
Why Teamwork Makes digitalLIFT Thrive
Cassi’s story is a reminder that while digitalLIFT’s mission is rooted in digital inclusion, our foundation is built on something even more powerful: people. People like Cassi, who lead with heart and make space for others to shine.
As Founding Executive Director Kami Griffiths puts it, “This is the kind of leadership that lifts everyone.”
Though this is a spotlight on Cassi, she rarely talks about herself. Have you noticed?
Instead, she continually redirects the credit, pointing to her teammates—their care, their commitment, and their quiet acts of support—as the true source of strength. It’s a powerful reflection of who she is as a leader: someone who doesn’t seek the spotlight, but uses it to shine on others instead.
Her time at digitalLIFT, she says, is one of the greatest privileges of her life. And her words—and actions—are a lasting reminder that great leadership isn’t about standing out. It’s about lifting others up. Success doesn’t belong to any one person: it’s built together, every day, through trust, kindness, and shared commitment.
We’re proud to spotlight Cassi for the work she does and the way she does it. With heart. With humility. And always, with others in mind.
