Protect the Digital Equity Act! In 2021, Congress passed the historic Digital Equity Act (DEA), which allocated $2.75 billion for digital inclusion initiatives. However, due to federal budget constraints and shifts in political priorities, the DEA could potentially be defunded. Take action to protect the DEA! Here are some things you can do:
- Find your representatives: Check out these instructions to find your local elected officials
- Contact them: Send a letter to members of Congress using one of these pre-written templates
- Write a press release: If you’ve received DEA or other digital inclusion funding, write a press release to share how important this news is! You can find a press release template here.
- Celebrate and raise awareness! It’s important to raise awareness about the DEA funding’s positive impact on the community. If you’ve received funding, check out this document with ideas to celebrate the award, as well as this one with a potential celebration agenda.
- Stay informed: Stay on top of DEA news by reviewing the funding allocations by state/territory and visiting the National Digital Inclusion Alliance’s Digital Equity Act page, as well as its list of advocacy tools and resources.
We remain steadfast in our commitment to advancing digital equity across the country, despite the current administration’s cuts to DEI programs. We are dedicated to ensuring that all individuals, regardless of their background, have access to the tools and skills necessary to thrive in an increasingly digital world.
