Our Story
Community Technology Network of the Bay Area, was founded in 2001 as a program of TechSoup to meet the growing demand for digital literacy. In 2008, we became an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit with support from the Full Circle Fund.
In 2010, with funding from the City of San Francisco, we expanded our partnerships to a network of senior centers through the SF Connected program which continues to be one of our biggest programs. In 2015, with funding from the California Public Utilities Commission, partners from around northern California hired us to provide digital literacy training.
As digital access became increasingly vital, we strategically expanded and evolved our delivery model. In 2017, we launched services in Central Texas and shortened our name to Community Tech Network. That was followed by a shift to remote learning in 2020 in response to the pandemic.
In 2021, recognizing a growing demand among peer organizations for digital training solutions, we introduced the Capacity Building Program. This initiative laid the foundation for a robust suite of online classes and multilingual curriculum hosted on our website.
Today we partner with hundreds of nonprofit and government agencies across the country providing both direct services and capacity building.
